The crash occurred at around 5:10 p.m. Saturday as the wife drove the husband to a La Quinta Inn. The couple is separated, and the woman told investigators that she has been trying to divorce him, EverythingLubbock.com reported.

According to the police report, “[the husband] was being a ‘jerk’ to her, so she told him she was going to drive him back home, to La Quinta. [The husband] got upset and yanked the wheel.”

The husband was ejected from the vehicle and was later pronounced dead on the scene, while the wife was transported to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries. EverythingLubbock.com reported.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, when the husband “yanked the wheel,” the wife lost control of the sport utility vehicle, veered onto a sidewalk and flipped multiple times.

The wife, whose legs and ankles looked “severely injured, possibly broken,” was trapped inside the vehicle following the crash, according to the police report.

She was “upset” and “did not know why (her husband) did what he did,” the report stated.
