Johnson & Johnson has announced a recall of four Neutrogena and one Aveeno spray-on sunscreens because they have low levels of benzene, a potential cancer-causing chemical in the sprays.
The recall only applies to the following types:
- Neutrogena Beach Defense
- Neutrogena Cool Dry Sport
- Neutrogena Invisible Daily
- Neutrogena Ultra Sheer
- Aveeno Protect + Refresh
All lots of the above products have been recalled, according to the company.
Benzene is not an ingredient in the sprays but it was found in some samples, the company said in a statement. They are investigating how the chemical became present in the sunscreen.
The company said consumers should not use the products and throw them away.
