Recall alert: Panera ‘at-home’ Southwest corn chowder recalled

Blount Fine Foods announced on Friday that it is voluntarily recalling Panera at Home Southwest Corn Chowder due to an undeclared wheat allergen.

In a news release, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the Fall River, Massachusetts, company is recalling 2,569 cases of the 16-ounce product.

The product is sold only in refrigerated cases in the deli department of select retail grocery stores across 12 states and is not sold at any Panera bakery-cafe outlets, the FDA said.

The cups were produced with the lot number 042122-2K and a “use by” date of June 30, 2020, the FDA said in its release.

According to Blount Fine Foods and the FDA, no consumer complaints or illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. The allergen was discovered during a restocking process, the FDA said.

“People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume this product,” the FDA stated in its release.

The product was distributed in California, Iowa, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington, according to the FDA.
