Snowbound drivers get surprise COVID-19 vaccines set to expire

JOSEPHINE COUNTY, Ore. — While being stuck in traffic in the snow isn’t an ideal situation for anybody, a group of motorists was in the right place at the right time.

Health workers in Oregon were on their way back to Grants Pass when they were stuck on a snowy road.

They had some vaccinations that were getting set to expire, so instead of wasting the coveted doses, they set up a pop-up vaccine clinic, KTVL reported.

The vaccines are only good for six hours after opening.

The staff went car-to-car to ask motorists if they wanted the six extra vaccines they had on hand, KTVL reported.

An ambulance crew stood by waiting to see if any of the lucky vaccinated people had a reaction, CNN reported.

One even went to a sheriff’s office employee who was late to the clinic but got her planned dose thanks to being stuck in the snowy traffic, KTVL reported.

Oregon received more than 100,000 total of both vaccines last week. The state is currently in Phase 1 of the rollout, CNN reported.
