GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Police in North Carolina are investigating after a toddler was discovered dead in a car outside a Gaston County business, authorities said.
According to WSOC-TV, Gaston County police responded shortly after 4 p.m. Thursday to the parking lot of Industrial Fabricators Inc. near York Highway, where a 2-year-old was found dead inside a vehicle.
Although authorities believe the death was an accident, police have to investigate it as a possible homicide “because of the situation and circumstances,” Capt. Billy Downey told the news outlet. Detectives still need to interview the toddler’s parents, colleagues and other people they have interacted with, WSOC reported.
No further details, including the child’s name and cause of death, were immediately available.
