Two fatal crashes in Nassau County on Friday

Nassau, FL. — On Friday, Jan. 22, there were two fatal crashes in Nassau County.

The first crash happened at 4:40 p.m. on Andrews Road and US-1.

A 38-year-old woman from Hillard was traveling westbound on Andrews Road approaching a railroad crossing.

The crossing had arms extended and warning signals activated.

FHP said that the driver traveled around the warning arms and attempted to cross.

As she crossed the tracks, she traveled directly into the path of a southbound CSX train.

The woman’s vehicle was pushed from the tracks onto the southwest shoulder, where it struck a electrical box.

The CSX train was able to activate emergency stopping procedures.

The second crash happened at 10:06 p.m. on I-95 NB at mile marker 381.

A 41-year-old man from Georgia stopped in his vehicle in the outside lane of 1-95 NB for unknown reasons.

A second vehicle traveling with two men from Canada, 37 and 59 years old, was also traveling in the outside lane of 1-95 NB.

The two men in the second vehicle collided with the man from Georgia, pushing his vehicle into the emergency shoulder.

The Georgia man collided with the guard rail several times before landing partially on top of the guard rail.

The second vehicle with the two men also collided with the guard rail.

The 41 year old man died, and the two men from Canada suffered minor injuries.
