After going to every Jaguars home game until 2017, fan surprises uncle with 2021 season tickets

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — We say it often, but it’s so much bigger than a game.

For two life-long Jacksonville Jaguars fans, they get to reconnect and relive the memories on the same field that brought them so close together.

Obi Umunaa had a phone call with his close family friend, or whom he calls uncle, when he surprised him with season tickets for the 2021 Jaguars season.

“So Obi calls and said, ‘Uncle, where did we sit?’ I said, ‘We were so far up, we were three rows from the rail,’ and he said, ‘Guess what?’ he said. ‘We’re three rows from the front row,’ and I said, ‘What?!’” Maduaka-Cain said.

Uncle Ellis Maduaka-Cain says the two have gone to every Jaguars game from day 1 until 2017 when he had to give up his season tickets due to work.

Umunaa lost his father when he was younger and Maduaka-Cain has cared for him as his own.

“It takes a village to raise a child and if something happens to your village, you step up and provide whatever help,” Maduaka-Cain said.

The video has since gone viral, even grabbing the attention of Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.

In 2021, they’ll be joined by plenty of new faces in the hope of a competitive season. Action News Jax has learned that 5,000 new fans have put down deposits to claim season seats for 2021.

“This season is about hope and what else could I do but give him some tickets to go to the game,” Umunna said.

Umunna said that the charity work that Meyer, Lawrence and the entire Jaguars team have done has inspired him to do more within the community.
