Bears’ coaches such as Matt Nagy have worked with Foles in past and know him well.
The move now paves the way for Gardner Minshew to become the Jags’ starting QB.

The trade marks the end of what turned out to be a very short road for Foles in Jacksonville. He was signed in March 2019 to a four-year $88 million contract.
After limited play in the preseason, Foles suffered a broken collarbone in the first game of the regular season.
Foles returned from injured reserve on October 23 and began practicing with the team.
On November 5, Foles was named the starting quarterback over rookie Minshew, who had been filling in for him as the starter.
Foles made his return from injury in Week 11 against the Indianapolis Colts, which ended in a 33–13 loss.
In Week 13 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Foles was benched for Minshew after the Jaguars were losing by a score of 25–0 at halftime. The Jaguars went on to lose the game 28–11.
Days after the game, head coach Doug Marrone announced that Minshew would retake the starting job. Foles finished the 2019 season with only four starts in four games.
The last 12 months for Nick Foles...wow. Our chopper documented his arrival, teammates loved him, Jags thought huge upgrade, he got hurt, Minshew comes out of nowhere to outperform and steal the hearts of Jags fans, comeback in November was a disaster, Now traded away. Wow!

Schefter reports that this move now gives the Jaguars 12 picks in the 2020 NFL Draft.
In exchange for QB Nick Foles, the Bears are giving up their compensatory fourth-round pick, No. 140 overall, which now gives the Jaguars 12 picks in the upcoming draft.
