Every January, Action News Jax Family Focus partner Publix Supermarkets supports the Special Olympics in all of their local stores.
The campaign raises awareness and funds for the Special Olympics. The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and competition for people with intellectual disabilities. Participants are given opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families and other Special Olympics athletes.
The funds raised at local area Publix Supermarkets will support Special Olympics Florida. On January 16, Summer Games Training Programs begin, including training in athletics, bocce, equestrian, golf, soccer and tennis.
Publix has supported the Special Olympics since 1993 and raised over 34.7 million dollars to ensure athletes were able to train and compete free of cost.
