15-year-old murder case reopened in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is reopening a 15-year-old murder case.

Larissa Forbes, 27, was found floating in the Intracoastal Waterway north of St. Augustine in 2001.

It is the third time the case has been reopened. The family sat down with the St. Augustine Record and said a new detective will be working on the case and will hopefully find answers.

The victim was wearing only a bra and had rope around her neck tied to a cinder block when her body was pulled from the water.

Investigators believe she was dead before her body hit the water and that it was there a day or two before being found.

Forbes left behind a 9-year-old son, a brother and a mother.

“Just still hurt. Frustrated,” said the victim’s mother Ella Forbes. “It bothers me that there is still somebody that is still out there that killed her, and there’s got to be an answer somewhere.”

According to the paper, over the years they’ve identified a person of interest but didn’t have enough to build a solid case against that person.
