PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A dog fighting event was discovered in Putnam County on Saturday after reports of dogs barking and people yelling.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office found about 100 people running into the woods off Azalea Lane in west Putnam County. Deputies said about 39 vehicles were left behind, with some registered as far north as Jonesboro, Georgia, and south as Bradenton, Florida.
PCSO said two dogs were found fighting inside an arena made out of a wooden box and both had injuries as the result of the fight.
Deputies contacted 20 people, all denied participating but claimed they were in the audience.
Deputies found 19 dogs in the area, digital hanging scale, two cellphones, sponges and a 12-guage shotgun.

The dogs were taken by the Putnam County Animal Control. However, deputies responded to the report of a burglary at the shelter.
PCSO said one of the dogs that was seized, a reddish-brown male pit bull, was taken from its kennel when an employee found that the kennel was cut. The investigation is ongoing.
Putnam County Animal Control is in need of dog food donations, saying it will take 150 pounds of dog food per week to get these dogs in healthy condition. To donate to Putnam County Animal control, visit their website and click "Donate."
