22-year-old pleads not guilty in stabbing death of Nassau County teen

A man is charged with murder after a 19-year-old was stabbed and later died in Fernandina Beach.

A 22-year-old accused of stabbing a 19-year-old in Nassau County has pleaded not guilty.

Zachary Fila is accused of stabbing 19-year-old Thomas Erdmann in December.

Family members said Erdmann was set to start training for the Marine Corps shortly before his death.

He died after the hospital after he was stabbed several times in his driveway.

Investigators said Fila tried to hide bloody clothes and shoes in a car.

Deputies also found bloody evidence at a house near Erdmann’s home.

Fila is charged with first-degree murder.

Police said the two had been arguing about a girl.

Some of Fila’s friends were in court to show support for their friend.

“I feel like what happened should have never happened,” Fila’s friend, Alan Brevaodo, said. “(He’d take the) shirt off his back and give it to you.”

The judge said Fila will appear in court again on Jan. 12.
