Action News Jax Investigates: Surveying Hurricane Matthew damage to Jacksonville Beach pier

An Action News Jax Investigation is revealing new information about the Jacksonville Beach pier, which was damaged during Hurricane Matthew in October.

In November, we learned divers would be used to survey the concrete pilings.

On Monday, a city spokeswoman confirmed those inspections are complete.

The city of Jacksonville could not tell us what the inspection revealed, but Jacksonville City Councilman Bill Gulliford said he was given an update.

He said they sent divers down and located all the concrete structures that went in the ocean at the end of the pier.

We also learned when we can see progress in fixing the pier.

"The number I saw was a timetable of 10 months, but that's when it starts, so we don’t have a starting point yet," Gulliford said.

Gulliford said the goal is to make sure the pier is rebuilt right.

We did ask if any legal action would be taken, but Gulliford said there is no discussion of that at this point.
