Change of address coming for part of Atlantic Beach

Neighbors who live in a specific part of Atlantic Beach will soon have an address change even though they aren’t moving.

Last year, the city of Atlantic Beach asked the U.S. Postal Service for a boundary review, to make sure only the people living inside the boundary lines of Atlantic Beach have an Atlantic Beach mailing address.

Families who live outside those city limits technically live in Jacksonville, even though it’s been called Atlantic Beach for more than 50 years.

Correcting the addresses should end the confusion some homeowners have experienced with mail delivery and emergency services.

“I called one time; first they said it was an Atlantic Beach area then they said it was the sheriff’s office downtown,” said neighbor Thomas Aponte.

Aponte said that’s been an issue for him, and he’s hopeful the change will end the confusion.

But he admits, the new address will be something he has to get used to.

“It will always be Atlantic Beach for me,” said Aponte.

The letter sent out to neighbors says they won't have to fill out a change of address form.
