Colorado State University increases number of predicted storms, hurricanes

Colorado State University has increased the number of predicted named storms and hurricanes in its updated 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast.

Researchers are calling for an above average intensity hurricane season with 15 named storms, eight hurricanes and three major hurricanes.

The 15 named storms predicted for the season include three storms that have already formed in the Atlantic basin -- Arlene, Bret and Cindy.

This is an update from the university's June 1 forecast of 14 named storms, six hurricanes two major hurricanes.

First Alert Meteorologist Garrett Bendenbaugh said it's important to remember that it takes only one storm to cause injury or damage.
