Judge needs more time to decide on bond for controversial Georgia pastor

GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — The judge deciding whether to grant bond for a local pastor said Tuesday at a bond hearing that he needs more time.

Prosecutors released jailhouse recordings that suggest Pastor Kenneth Adkins is a flight risk.

Adkins is still in jail in Glynn County on child molestation charges.

At times, things got heated between attorneys, with Adkins sometimes shaking his head. The bond hearing lasted hours, and we heard from witnesses and even jailhouse phone calls. In the end, the judge couldn't make a decision on Tuesday.

Deputies who brought Adkins to his bond hearing ran from our cameras.

We were the only local station there as Adkins ducked from our cameras in the back of the squad car and dodged our questions.

Adkins is accused of molestation and aggravated molestation of a teen 16 years or younger.

On Tuesday in court, two jailhouse phone calls made by Adkins were played.

In the first, he talks to an unidentified woman, repeatedly calling the situation he is in "crazy."

In the second conversation with a male friend of the alleged victim, Adkins says, "It's going to trial, I don't know why he’s doing this to me, it's such a lie."

"It needs to be gone, needs to be done with. I am praying that A.J. sees the light and that God speaks to him and he drops this," Adkins said.

Adkins is also heard telling this person that he needs to "handle the situation"; the state called this intimidation, while Adkins' lawyer argued it was not.

The decision on whether Adkins will be allowed bond will be faxed to both attorneys tomorrow morning.
