Country star Chris Stapleton meets "heroic" officer shot in line of duty

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — His show is over but country music star Chris Stapleton is still generating goodwill among fans and some police officers who worked his concert in Jacksonville Saturday.

The singer met with several law enforcement officers including K-9 Officer Jeremy Mason who was shot in the face during pursuit of a bank robbery suspect in July.

JSO says Stapleton heard about Officer Mason's "heroic story" and made the request to meet him.

The two posed for a picture that was widely shared and celebrated on social media Sunday.

Officer Mason appears to have recovered from a gunshot to the chin fired by suspect Michael Joseph Harris during a 2-mile chase that continued even after Mason was wounded.

Harris was shot and killed in the incident.

Stapleton was just named Male Vocalist of the Year in the 51st Country Music Association Awards.

He also received album of the year award for From a Room: Volume 1 which features songs "Broken Halos" and "Either Way."

Stapleton and his All-American Road Show performed at Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena.
