Deputies hopeful missing Clay County woman Jordan Cooper is alive, well

The Clay County Sheriff's Office said it believes a missing woman will be found alive.

Jordan Cooper, 25, hasn't been seen since the weekend. Deputies said she has the mental capacity of a young teen.

Deputies said the most important thing people can do right now is share Cooper’s picture on social media. Family members and friends are also passing out flyers with Cooper’s picture on them.

Clay County deputies and other agencies across Northeast Florida were searching for Cooper on Friday.

Cooper disappeared from her family's home off Payne Road over the weekend. Her family is worried because they say she has the mental capacity of a young teen.

Deputies said they've spread out and are covering a 5-mile radius around the home, with dogs on the ground and crews in the sky

U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations has been assisting the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, using its helicopter to look for Cooper in the dense brush near her family’s home.

The helicopter was called in because it has night vision and an infrared detection system that can be used to look down into the woods.

The infrared system uses temperature to detect things that otherwise may not be visible.

Detectives are also re-interviewing family members

“This is traumatic for the family. The family is distraught and there's certain things, you talk with them the first time, they may not have remembered because their minds are racing,” said CCSO Public Information Officer Chris Padgett.

At this point, deputies said, this is still a search and not a recovery

“I’d like to say there’s a high chance of survival,” Padgett said.

The community is eager to help.

“When they give us the go, we’ll be out there supporting in any way that we can,” neighbor Kasey Bryan said.

But deputies said their dogs still have areas to cover before the public is invited to assist in the search.

Neighbors said they already have teams ready to go to help officers whenever they are ready, even if they're needed this weekend.
