Deputies: Putnam County woman crashes into fence, drags mom with kids in car

A Putnam County woman's children were inside her car when she sped backward into a fence and dragged her mother with the car, according to a police report.

Deputies were called to Cove Drive in Satsuma on Friday after reports of a car in a fence and an injured woman.

They found 24-year-old Randie Johns inside a silver Jeep Cherokee that had crashed into a fence.

A witness told deputies he heard arguing coming from the car and saw Johns' mother standing at the driver's side door of the Cherokee, trying to get the keys.

He said he could hear the mother saying the driver was not capable of driving.

He said he saw the Cherokee speed backwards into the fence and Johns' mom ended up lying in the middle of the road.

Johns' mom said told deputies that she and Johns had been hanging out and drinking when Johns tried to leave the house with her two children.

Johns' mom said she was near the driver's side door of the car trying to shut the engine off when Johns began backing out of the driveway at a high rate of speed.

She said she woke up on the ground with several injuries and wasn't sure if she had lost consciousness.

She was taken to the hospital with road rash on her leg, arm and back and a laceration on her eye.

Deputies said they could smell alcohol coming from Johns, and she was unable to stand without help.

She was swaying on her feet and had to use the door of the car to hold herself up, deputies said.

Johns admitted she tried to leave the home and hit the fence but denied hitting her mom with the car. She said she wasn't intoxicated and denied her children were inside the car at the time.

She was arrested and charged with two counts of child neglect, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and reckless driving.

Her mom was trying to stop her from driving drunk with her kids in the car, according to deputies:
