Jacksonville woman killed, man critically injured in Middleburg crash, deputies say

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers have identified a woman who was killed in a crash in Middleburg on Tuesday morning.

Kathryn Touchton, 31, was driving west on CR 218 when the driver of a 1998 GMC Sierra veered off the roadway then crossed into oncoming traffic.

Touchton, who lived in Jacksonville, was killed after the truck hit the front of her 2010 Honda Accord.

The 45-year-old man of Macclenny was critically injured in the crash.

Troopers said they do not know why the driver of the truck veered into oncoming traffic near North Mimosa Avenue.

Neighbors tell Action News Jax the road is very busy and sun may have been a factor in the crash.

Troopers have not yet determined if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

A GoFundMe page for Touchton says she had a heart of gold.

"She never met a stranger and had fun everywhere she went," the page said. "She was there for us ALL at some point, even when she was the one needing saving."

The crash blocked all eastbound and westbound lanes for hours as officials investigated.

"It’s similar to a directly head-on collision. It’s not head on, but it’s an offset hit. Obviously, a terrible, terrible tragedy with this," said FHP spokesman Dylan Bryan.

Troopers are continuing to investigate.
