Family to unknown driver in I-10 shooting: ‘Don't be a coward'

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office say the two semi truck drivers were arguing as they were driving on I-10 near the Cecil Commerce Center Saturday afternoon.

The victim is 44-year-old George Guerrero of Perth Amboy, N.J. His family says they are heartbroken — and in complete shock. They say Guerrero had a tender heart and full of kindness, and on his long road trips, he’d always call his family to check in.

They can’t believe he was killed on that stretch of I-10.

“I was so proud of him,” said his cousin, Blanca Clendenin. “He amazed me because so many times, he could have given up on himself, and he never did.”

His family says Guerrero, who lost both parents as a child and was in foster care, always wanted to be a truck driver.

Clendenin says when he was on the road, he always had a special seat for his four-legged friend, Aria.

Clendenin says she never expected her family to receive a phone call from police saying Guerrero was shot three times — with a bullet to the head killing him in his truck.

Action News Jax was there when investigators were combing for evidence in this road rage incident. Police believe the shooter was driving an orange cab with a white Freightliner trailer.

Clendenin has a message for the man that took her cousin.

“Turn yourself in,” Clendenin said. “Don’t be a coward and face the consequences of what he did to a father, to a brother, to an uncle.”

Clendenin says Guerrero’s dog is currently at a rescue shelter in Jacksonville and she plans to come and pick up the dog this week before giving it to Guerrero’s son.
