SATSUMA, Fla. — Two people were killed and six were hurt in a crash in Putnam County on Thursday night, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
FHP was dispatched just before 8 p.m. to the crash at U.S. 17 and Horse Landing Road.
Preliminary investigation shows that a Hyundai Sonata crossed the center line and hit a Ford Expedition, according to FHP.
The driver of the Hyundai, Barbara Armstrong, 35, of Hastings, died at the Putnam County Medical Center. The person traveling with her died at the scene and hasn't been identified. Armstrong and the passenger in the Hyundai were not wearing seatbelts, FHP said.
There were six people total in the Expedition.
The driver of the Expedition and a 2-year-old were taken to UF Health in Gainesville for treatment of serious injuries. The other four passengers -- ages 12, 14, 15 and 18 -- were taken with minor injuries to the Putnam County Medical Center.
U.S. 17 was temporarily shut down during the investigation.
We learned Armstron had a long list of driving offenses and had been arrested at least six times for driving with a suspended license. FHP did not say what her license status was at the time of the crash.
