Fire at 100-year-old building in downtown Jacksonville

UPDATE: Flames engulf centruy old Jacksonville building

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is on scene at 725 Edison Ave in downtown Jacksonville Tuesday morning.

JFRD Chief Mike Allen states they got the call around 5:30 and when they arrived on scene flames were shooting through the roof.

The multi-use commercial building was unoccupied, 35 firefighters are working to contain the fire and that hotspots are still active according to JFRD.

In January of 2016 the building, which housed Sam's Sub Shop,was approved by the City of Jacksonville as a historic landmark, but the application was removed so an official designation was not given.
