Florida teen gets gall bladder removed after BB gun shooting

Jonathan Rose

A teen near Daytona Beach needed his gall bladder removed and 30 staples in his abdomen after being shot in the stomach with a BB gun on Tuesday, deputies said.

Volusia County Sheriff's Office arrested Jonathan Rose, 22, in the shooting and said his girlfriend, Jackie Jarvis, helped him cover up the incident, The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports.

The 17-year-old victim ruptured his gall bladder and cut part of his liver. Investigators said he needed “exploratory surgery” requiring an incision from his sternum to his groin, and now has “permanent bowel complications,”  News-Journal reports.

Rose and Jarvis initially told deputies that the victim was shot while they were all walking out of a pizza shop. The couple even brought deputies to the alleged scene of the shooting.

A few hours after deputies were at the location, Holly Hill police called to tell them that Rose lied about where the incident happened, according to News-Journal.

Jarvis confessed to deputies that she and Rose lied about what happened, and said that Rose accidentally shot the victim at her home.  She said she lied “out of fear” and “didn’t want her boyfriend to get in trouble,” the arrest report states.

Rose faces charges of knowingly giving false information to law enforcement and culpable negligence inflicting actual harm.

He is being held without bail at the county jail and is on felony probation for burglary, according to News-Journal.
