Northeast Florida, Southeast Georgia schools opening information after Hurricane Matthew

Officials for Florida universities and public schools are providing status updates on Monday following Hurricane Matthew.

Jacksonville University

Jacksonville University reported having no building damage, nor reports of injuries. Some trees and limbs are down, and a few areas are without power.

Students are being asked to stay in Oak and Botts halls until the entire campus is fully inspected and safe, officials said. They are permitted to go back to their North campus residences, however, by taking approved routes.

All dining to be done out of Oak Hall. Classes will resume on Oct. 11, unless circumstances require a schedule change.

University of North Florida

The University just received word that both Duval and St. Johns County Schools will be closed on Oct. 10, so the University has also now decided to close Monday, Oct. 10.

The Carpenter Library and food service will be available for students. The Student Wellness Complex, the Field House, the Student Union and the UNF Preschool will be open.

The Osprey Cafe and shuttles are now running as usual, officials said. Classes will resume Tuesday, Oct. 11.

St. Johns River State College

All St. Johns River State College campuses will remain closed on Oct. 10.

Students and employees should check email and the official website for further details, officials said.

Edward Waters College

Edward Waters College administration, faculty, staff, and students will resume normal class schedules and operating hours, Monday, October 10, 2016 at 8:00 A.M.

Bethune-Cookman University

Bethune-Cookman University’s campus will remain closed as officials assess the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew, officials said.

The University is expected to reopen Oct. 12 and classes will begin on Oct. 13.

University officials said that  they ask students, parents, faculty and staff to check their emails and the university's website and Facebook page for updates before returning to campus.

Flagler College

Flagler College remains closed. Students, faculty and staff shouldn't return to campus until notified, officials said.

St. Johns County Schools

All schools are closed Monday and will reopen Tuesday.

Normal district operations will resume. Athletic events and interscholastic activities will not take place on Oct. 10. 12-month employees should report to work on Oct. 10, officials said.

The district’s transportation department has been assessing road conditions Monday and there may be some delays with pick up and drop off in isolated areas Tuesday.

Putnam County Schools 

Putnam County schools will be open on Monday, officials said.

Putnam County schools will be open on Monday, October 10. Any students who are absent due to circumstances from Hurricane Matthew will be excused as long as they have a written excuse from a parent or guardian.

Nassau County Schools

All Nassau County Public Schools will be closed Monday. All 12-month employees are to report for duty, officials said. Schools will reopen Tuesday.

Clay County Schools

Officials said schools will be closed Oct. 10. The teacher planning day will take place Oct. 10.

All Clay County schools will resume classes Tuesday except for Orange Park High School. Orange Park High won't open because of the transformer fire Saturday and power will not be restored until Tuesday. Teachers and students will return to Orange Park High Wednesday, officials said.

Florida State College at Jacksonville

FSCJ campuses and centers in Duval and Nassau counties weathered Hurricane Matthew with no injuries and minimal damage to facilities. The campuses will be operating as scheduled on Oct.10.

Duval County Schools

Duval County Public Schools is closed Monday and will reopen on Oct. 11.

Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti said that students can receive an excused absence if their  families are facing weather-related hardships on Tuesday.

Episcopal School of Jacksonville 

The Episcopal School is still without power, school officials said. All school and after school activities will be canceled Oct. 10. The school will continue to update parents through email, website and social media about the status of electricity restoration and school re-opening.

Temple Christian Academy

The school will be closed on Monday, Oct 10.

Jericho School for Children with Autism

The school will be closed Monday, October 10.

The Bolles School

In order for power to continue to be restored to the school's campuses and families, Bolles will remain closed Monday, October 10. Upper school coaches will reach out to their respective teams if they have practice.

Shepherd of the Woods school

Jacksonville Country Day School

Jacksonville Country Day School will resume classes following our regular school day schedule on Monday, October 10. Extended care will be open as usual beginning with early care at 7:15 a.m. Current plans are for after school enrichment activities to continue as scheduled as well.

Hodges Boulevard Presbyterian Church Preschool

The school is open Oct. 10.

Duval and Clay Charter Schools

After further consideration, Duval and Clay Charter Schools managed by Charter Schools USA will remain closed on Monday, October 10. These schools include:

Bradford County School District

Bradford County Schools will be back on its regularly scheduled calendar for 2016-2017 on Monday, October 10. Teachers have a Planning Day (no school for students). Students will return to school on Tuesday, October 11 as planned.

Brantley County School System

Monday, October 10 is a school holiday and students do not have school Tuesday, October 11 due to a teacher and staff planning day.

Ware County School District

Staff will return Wednesday, October 12 and students will return on Thursday, October 13.

Glynn County School System

Glynn County School Superintendent Howard Mann has announced that all Glynn County Schools

will be closed throughout the week (reopening Mon., Oct. 17)

as teams assess damage following Hurricane Matthew. School system maintenance and custodial staff are asked to report to work on Tuesday, Oct. 11; food service and central office staff should report to work on Thursday, Oct. 13; and principals should report to work on Friday, Oct. 14. Teachers can report voluntarily on Friday if they wish to do so.

The Glynn Academy vs. Brunswick High School football city championship game has been rescheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, at Glynn Stadium. The Brunswick High School softball double-header is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, and will remain on the same schedule if needed on Friday. Glynn Academy volleyball match is scheduled for 5 p.m. Friday.
