Former City Council candidate accused of money laundering

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former City Council candidate Mincy Pollock is being accused of laundering money through a bogus charity closely tied to U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown.

Those accusations are coming from Pollock’s former business partner, who said the FBI is investigating.

Pollock was at a Northside Bono's barbecue with the congresswoman in January when she was served with a federal subpoena.

“As we were sitting there, these guys came in and everyone was pretty calm for the most part. They introduced themselves as, you know, agents. And they gave her some paperwork,” Pollock told Action News Jax in January.

Now Pollock is a lot less talkative.

“I don’t have a side of the story. I’m sorry,” said Pollock when Action News Jax tried to question him about the allegations. “No comment.”

“I faxed all this information over to the FBI because they had been here before, wanting to know about that situation between Mr. Pollock, who was working for Ms. Brown at that time,” said Pollock’s former business partner at First Coast Multi-Lines Agency, Rev. Anthony Beeks.

It’s a company that sells Florida Blue insurance plans.

Florida Blue wrote a check to First Coast Multi-Lines Agency on Nov. 24 for $25,000.

Pollock deposited it a few days later and withdrew $2,500 in cash.

The next day, Pollock wrote two checks from the business to his City Council campaign manager, Siottis Jackson -- one for $7,850 and one for $3,000.

“Because you know with $10,000, of course, it would draw a flag at the bank,” said Beeks.

Jackson deposited the checks at two different banks.

The next day, Pollock wrote two checks for “Open Door.” Beeks said the bank confirms the account number where it was deposited is the same as One Door for Education, which has close ties to Rep. Brown.

Its director pleaded guilty to wire fraud in March.

Florida Blue’s spokesman sent Action News Jax a statement that says in part, “Reverend Beeks is involved in a dispute with his former business partners in which he is inappropriately attempting to involve Florida Blue.”

The FBI tells Action News Jax it has no comment on whether it’s looking into Beeks’ claims.

Rep. Brown’s spokesman said Brown had no comment on what her relationship is with Pollock.
