A Georgia man who allegedly used drones to smuggle cellphones and other contraband into prison has pleaded guilty to running a drug trafficking organization from behind bars.
According to evidence presented during his guilty plea hearing, 46-year-old Daniel Roger Alo formed a drug trafficking organization while serving a sentence at the Calhoun State Prison on a kidnapping conviction.

Alo smuggled contraband into the Calhoun State Prison and used cellphones to coordinate large drug deals, according to officials.
Last September, a federal grand indicted Alo and 15 other people in the drug trafficking organization operating in Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia and elsewhere.
Investigators said the trafficking organization was made up of gang members inside and outside of prison, and people from the Ghost Face Gangsters, the Bloods, the Gangster Disciples and others with ties to Mexican cartels.
Co-conspirators, including Georgia Lottery winner Ronnie Music, bought and distributed pounds of crystal methamphetamine throughout the Southeast.

Alo and Music, who purchased meth with some of his $3 million in lottery winnings, are awaiting sentencing.
During their investigation, agents seized more than 15 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, more than 15 pounds of crystal meth, more than $600,000, several vehicles and two drones.
Alo faces 5 to 40 years in federal prison.
