A Gainesville police officer is being applauded by many for how he handled a recent complaint from neighbors.

On Jan. 15, Gainesville Police Department Officer Bobby White responded to a complaint of children playing basketball “loudly” in the streets.

White arrived at the scene around 5 p.m. and “diffused” the situation.

The GPD posted the video of White’s interaction with the children on its Facebook page. The video had over 555,000 views at the time this was written.

People commented on the GPD Facebook page applauding White for how he handled the situation, which GPD described as “kids … having fun. Not committing crimes.”

Marianne Richards was one of the more than 1,000 people to comment on the GPD Facebook post. She thanked White for a job well done.

“Gainesville Police Department and Officer White should be dispatched to other areas of the country to show them how policing should be,” Richards said.

The video ends with text on the screen that said:

“If you call GPD to complain about kids being kids … This is how Officer White is going to handle it. We’re going to let kids be kids. We are going to focus on the ones that commit crimes. #HoopsNotCrime.”
