Construction on IKEA in Jacksonville is set to begin Thursday.

The 290,000 square-foot store is expected to open in fall 2017 on the northwestern corner of Interstate 295 and Gate Parkway.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry and other local officials and community leaders will join IKEA at a groundbreaking event at 10 a.m.

Contractors for the store were chosen earlier this month.

IKEA representatives said the new store will employ 250 workers.

This store will feature three model home interiors, 50 room-settings, a supervised children’s play area, and a 350-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon plates.
