St. Johns, Putnam and Glynn counties eligible for FEMA Individual Assistance after Hurricane Matthew

People in St. Johns and Putnam counties in Florida and Glynn County in Georgia affected by Hurricane Matthew are now eligible for individual assistance to get help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The major disaster declaration made on October 8 by President Obama for the State of Florida was amended to include St. Johns, Putnam, Flagler and Volusia counties Monday.

In a separate disaster declaration, people who live in Bryan, Bulloch, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, McIntosh and Wayne counties in Georgia may also apply for individual assistance from FEMA.

Flagler, St. Johns and Volusia counties were already designated for assistance with debris removal and emergency protective measures.

St. Johns County officials extended a state of emergency in the county for the next seven days on Tuesday morning.

The Individual Assistance designation from FEMA can help people with temporary housing and small business loans.

St. Augustine Mayor Nancy Shaver said on Facebook that the Individual Disaster Assistance "promises to make a real difference in the recovery of those most affected by Matthew."
