Inspectors find 110 rodent droppings in kitchen area at Jacksonville airport

A report says inspectors found more than 100 rodent droppings at Jacksonville International Airport after employees told Action News Jax about a rat infestation.

Action News Jax spoke with employees about the rat problem on Thursday. They gave us exclusive video that they say shows rat traps in the food preparation area.

Employees said the airport has a major rat infestation, and that the rodents fall through the ceiling and onto food.

An inspection report from Thursday show the most high priority complaints were for the prep kitchen area.

Health inspectors found 110 dry rodent droppings throughout the kitchen and storage areas, according to the report.

The report said inspectors found evidence of chew marks on condiment wrappers and cups.

Inspectors also found five dead roaches near a storage area.

A JIA spokesperson said rats are not a problem in the food area.

The spokesperson said HMSHost, a private company, oversees restaurants in the airport.

HMSHost sent Action News Jax a statement:

The health and safety of our guests and associates is HMSHost's top priority.
