Jacksonville fire lieutenant reassigned after reported attempted carjacking in St. Augustine

A Jacksonville fire lieutenant has been reassigned after he reportedly threw a woman to the ground during an attempted carjacking in St. Augustine.

Lt. John Lopez allegedly demanded the woman get out of her car in the Prohibition Kitchen parking lot early Sunday morning.

The woman showed Action News Jax bruises on her body that she said were inflicted by Lopez.

According to the incident report, Lopez repeatedly told her to get out of the vehicle because he was the authority then grabbed her and threw her to the ground.

Some men who were in the area pulled Lopez off and restrained him, the report said.

He was arrested and charged with attempted carjacking.

Jacksonville fire rescue officials said Lopez has been with the department since May 2005.

He was reassigned to a 40-hour week and is no longer working in the field while the department investigates.

Records show that Lopez was arrested for a similar charge in 2007, but the charge was dropped.
