Jacksonville firefighters approve tentative pension deal negotiated with mayor

Jacksonville firefighters have approved the tentative pension deal negotiated with Mayor Lenny Curry.

A union rep told Action News Jax the deal was approved by 77 percent of firefighters, while 23 percent were against it. Among the chief officers, 86 percent approved while 14 percent were against.

The police union had already passed its tentative deal.

Earlier Wednesday, the city's general counsel ruled the Police and Fire Pension Board of trustees has no place at the collective bargaining table, which means one less hurdle for the mayor's pension reform plan.

Curry released the following statement:

“Today represents another step toward solving Jacksonville's pension crisis once and for all in a way that is good for taxpayers, first responders, and the future of our city. I thank IAFF union leadership and membership for working with me and reaching this historic agreement.”
