Tillis was in court for only minutes. Both the state and the defense asked for more time because he is now facing additional charges, including kidnapping and human trafficking. He has yet to be charged by the state.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said last week that Tillis is suspected in the murder of 30-year-old Joni Gunter. JSO said the woman was a transient who spent time in southside Jacksonville.

JSO found human remains in February at Tillis' southside home and property. Tillis has not yet been officially charged by the state attorney's office

Safey expert  Dale Carson said that takes time. "There is no statute of limitations on homicide," Carson said. "So the result is the state attorney's office should wait until all the evidence is collected and they know beyond a doubt that they can successfully prosecute the case at trial and get a conviction."

The state told the judge that it will file other charges against Tillis next week.

Meanwhile, JSO said there are likely other victims. Action News Jax contacted JSO for updates on the case, but officers have not yet responded.

Tillis is expected to be back in court on Jan 3.
