Jacksonville man accused of orchestrating man's 2016 Easter Sunday murder from jail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville man is accused of orchestrating a murder from inside the Duval County Jail.

Police say Quintae Hudson, 26, ordered the killing of a man who was set to testify in a trial against him.

That man was 62-year-old Michael Felton Wright, who was killed on Easter Sunday 2016. He was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Wright was a security guard at the apartment complex on Kings Street where Hudson lived.

Wright was set to testify against Hudson in an incident from 2014. A court document shows Wright witnessed Hudson allegedly throwing a concrete stone through a woman's car, hurting her small child.

According to an indictment filed Friday, Hudson is accused of plotting the hit on Wright with five other people.

While looking into Wright's death, investigators said they found recorded phone conversations from jail where Hudson is requesting Wright be "handled ... and taken care of" and Hudson also reportedly said that money will likely not work on Wright and that he would have to be taken out.

Last year, Joe Brenton was shot and killed the day he was supposed to testify. Investigators say his murder was also orchestrated from jail.

"What's supposed to happen and the reason they are allowed to listen to those conversations is to protect the public," Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said.

Carson said there are too many inmates and too many calls being made for JSO to be able to screen them all to prevent a crime.

"The only hope that there is, is to restrict the number of phone calls because you can't all of a sudden advance the number of people that listen to those phone calls," Carson said.

If convicted on all of these new charges from the State Attorney's Office, Hudson could face a life sentence.
