The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after they say a woman was shot to death near Brookview Drive South and Cortez Road.
Police said they initially got a call about a hit and run crash on Monday afternoon and found the woman lying in the road.
As the woman was being taken to the hospital, it was discovered that the woman had been shot. She later died at the hospital.
Witnesses at the scene told officers that the woman was pushed out of a black, SUV-type vehicle as it was traveling northbound on Cortez Road.
Police are now trying to contact her family before releasing her name to the public.
