The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for the person who shot a man in the courtyard of a Durkeeville apartment complex on Thursday night.
A JSO officer was working off-duty at 2201 Kings Park Drive around 7:30 p.m. when he heard several gunshots.
A passerby told him that there had been a shooting. The officer went to help the victim and contacted other patrol units for backup.
The man died at the scene.
Police are canvassing the apartment complex, trying to get more information about the shooter.
Investigators are also checking surveillance video in the area. Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS to remain anonymous and potentially be eligible for a reward.
