Jacksonville police: Toddler, adult shot on Broadway Avenue, search for suspect continues

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 3:15  P.M. FRIDAY: UPDATE: Family of child shot in overnight shooting in Jacksonville said the boy has no brain activity.

JSO  has released a report identifying Rashaela Mickens as the mother of  3-year-old Connor Mickens who was shot in the head on Thursday evening in a Westside Jacksonville neighborhood.

Rashaela was also shot in the leg during the incident, which occurred Thursday around 10 p.m.

According to JSO, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department transported Mickens and her son to a hospital and the Department of Children and Families was notified of the incident.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is still searching for a suspect who shot a 3-year-old child and a woman Thursday night in the 2000 block of Broadway Avenue in West Jacksonville.

Police said around 10 p.m., JSO got several calls about the shooting that happened inside a home on Broadway. Two adults and two children were in the home at the time of the shooting.

Police said a man came in the home and fired several shots.

When officers arrived, they found a woman had been shot in the leg and the 3-year-old had been shot in the head.

Several roads were blocked off at 11 p.m. as officers investigated. At one point, a helicopter was surveying the area. K9 units were also on scene.

Police were searching for the man in connection with the shooting.

A woman who said she is the aunt of the toddler tells Action News Jax that the 3-year-old child is a boy and is in critical condition. She said the woman shot is the boy's mother and is going to be OK.

Family of the boy and mother shot tell Action News Jax that the man who shot them is the mother's boyfriend.

The scene was cleared by JSO around 7:55 a.m. Friday.
