JSO gives public access to officer-involved shooting investigations

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is now offering the public access to its review of officer-involved shootings.

Sheriff Mike Williams tells Action News Jax this “Open Data” process is his response to criticism that his department isn’t transparent about the review process.

The public can track the progress and once an investigation is closed, access the State Attorney’s Office review, JSO’s internal review and video of the Response to Resistance review board hearing, which the public is not allowed to attend.

The database also includes findings and any administrative action taken.

The database includes officer-involved shootings from 2015 to date.

It can be found at jaxsheriff.org.
