JSO lieutenant under investigation for racist posts resigns from FOP Board of Directors

A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office lieutenant under fire for accusations of racist posts on social media has stepped down from her position on the Board of Directors for the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5-30.

President of the FOP Lodge 5-30 Steve Zona said in a memo that Lt. Trudy Callahan stepped down at his request.

Zona said he has received inquiries about Callahan’s Instagram posts over the last few weeks and felt her resignation was in the best interest of the organization and its members.

Zona said Callahan served on the Board of Directors since 2013 and recently won re-election for her position.

Zona thanked her for her service and said she will continue to be a dues paying member of the FOP.

Callahan is under investigation for posts that included the "n" word and other racist material.

Another post showed a picture of a black man standing in a drive-through lane at an ATM with the comment, “When you need money to get gas for the car but you can’t drive up to the ATM.”

An Action News Jax investigation also found six pages worth of complaints against Callahan dating back to 1996 when she first started with JSO.

They included conduct unbecoming, harassment, unnecessary force and sleeping on the job.

She had previously been suspended three times.
