JSO searches for man accused of assaulting woman at gunpoint on Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking for a man who they say attempted to rob a woman at gunpoint then made sexual advances on her on the Westside.

The incident was reported early Monday morning when a woman was leaving her home near Herschel Street and Marquette Avenue. She told authorities that she was attacked by an unknown man after trying to move a garbage can that had been placed behind her car in the driveway.

The man approached her from behind, placed a gun to her head and put his hand on her mouth, police said. He told the woman not to scream and forced her to the backyard of her home.

The man asked the victim for money and searched the victim’s purse. He did not take any of the victim’s belongings. The man made sexual advances toward the woman at gunpoint, authorities said.

Officers said the man fled on foot.

The woman told officers that the man was 5 feet and 9 inches tall and had a deep voice.

JSO said they are looking for a stolen silver 2015 Nissan Rogue that was seen before the incident. The car’s Florida license plate number is EWGD71. The vehicle was reported stolen on Sept. 25.

Anyone with any information on the attack or the whereabouts of the stolen car is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email us at JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
