A kitten still has all nine lives thanks to a woman who stopped traffic when she saw him thrown out the window of a van on the Arlington Expressway Service Road.
Chloe Martin said she saw someone toss Harrison and two other kittens from a dark-colored van.
The other two kittens ran off, but Martin scooped up Harrison and took him to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
“It makes me really want to cry because I love animals so much and I don’t understand how someone can just be so cruel,” said Martin.
Harrison had to have emergency surgery.
“The bottom lip became detached and Dr. (Stan) Hill just had to stitch it up,” said Jacksonville Humane Society customer care specialist Suzy Berry.
Two weeks later, it’s just a little scar.
“I thought of Harrison Ford. He’s got the scar on his chin and he always plays a really big strong hero type in most of the movies. So I thought this guy needed a hero name,” said Berry, who fostered him after his surgery.
Now Berry is adopting him.
“When I first heard him purr, I knew that he was finally starting to feel safe and comfortable,” said Berry.
Harrison weighed just 8 ounces when he came in. That’s about as much as a cup of coffee.
He has gained a pound and a half in just two weeks.
