Legal document filed about 20 years before the death of Father Rene Robert to protect his killer in case he dies in brutal death.
Action News Jax has obtained a legal document that Robert signed more than two years ago, which seemed to foreshadow the tragic ending of his life.
The copy of the document said he agreed if someone were to ever kill him that person wouldn’t be put to death. It also states family members are to present the document to the courts during the trial for consideration during sentencing.
Steven Murray is accused in Robert's death. Police said Murray killed Robert near Waynesboro, Georgia and dumped his body.
According to the Florida Times-Union, Robert signed a document with the cherish life circle in 1995. It reads in part, "by signing this document, you declare that, should you become a homicide victim, you do not want your murderer executed."
But unlike Robert, his siblings aren’t as forgiving.
“I hope he gets the death penalty,” Deborah Bernard previously told Action News Jax.
