Lonna Lauramore Barton's attorney asks that she be moved to different jail

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A letter written by the attorney for Lonna Lauramore Barton asks that she be moved to a different jail because of worries that she’ll be targeted by other inmates.

The letter is from Baker County Attorney Anthony Blackburn. He also asks that she gets help for addiction issues. He says confining her with violent offenders could be a danger to Lauramore Barton. Her family believes she could be a target.

Lonna Lauramore Barton is currently serving time for the role in her son’s death, Lonzie Barton. She pleaded guilty to child neglect and lying to police and was sentenced to five years in Duval County. She later pleaded guilty to four felony drug charges in Baker County.

But in a letter to the department of corrections, her attorney said:

"Ms. Barton was not convicted of any violent crime or offense. Ms. Barton's previous criminal record is not lengthy and again she has never been charged with or convicted of a violent offense.

"I respectfully ask the Department of Corrections, and the Director of Placement to assign her to a unit in which no violent offenders are housed or quartered."

Blackburn said that if she gets help with her addiction issues “she can be a very productive citizen” upon her release.
