JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man who is accused of sexual battery against a store clerk is back in jail after the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office him in connection with three robberies.

George Keene is being held in the Duval County Jail.

Keene made his first appearance Friday morning. A judge set bond at a $200,006.

Three Jacksonville gas stations were robbed Thursday within hours of one another, police said. Surveillance cameras show the man allegedly responsible, a shirtless suspect accused in the crime spree.

Action News Jax learned that Keene is a registered sex offender accused of robbing a convenience store and committing sexual battery on the clerk after he forced her into her car in 2005.

“That was only 11 years ago,” said Action News Jax Crime and Safety expert Ken Jefferson, asked why the man was out of jail. “My question is why wasn’t he still in jail for an armed robbery and a sexual battery if he was convicted of that?”

Keene is scheduled to be back in court on Nov. 23.
