JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man accused of setting his ex-girlfriend on fire at her job at a Golden Corral on Jacksonville’s Westside appeared before a judge on Monday.
Darryl Whipple was charged with attempted first-degree murder. He entered a not guilty plea.
Whipple appeared in court in a red jumpsuit, which signifies that he's on suicide watch.
Police said Whipple doused Carol Demmons with gasoline and lit her on fire while she was at work.
Demmons has had multiple surgeries since the incident in October.
Whipple is scheduled to be back in court on Dec. 6.
