Man arrested in hit-and-run crash has long criminal history

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is behind bars for a hit-and-run crash that sent a motorcycle rider to a hospital.

The crash happened off West Gate Parkway, on the Southside Thursday night.

Police tracked down Matthew Frye at his girlfriend's apartment complex.

The crash and eventual arrest all happened at the Thornton Apartments.

Police say there are signs the man behind the wheel was drinking.

Records show his mug shot is a common sight across the country for DUI.

Frye has three previous DUI convictions in Florida and Oklahoma.

Early Friday morning, police arrested Frye in a crash that put a 19-year-old riding a motorcycle in critical condition.

The police reports of the crash say Frye admitted to police that he drank at least two margaritas that night at dinner at a local restaurant.

Frye told a JSO officer that of his three previous DUI convictions, "He told me he spend 45 days in jail last time," the police report reads.

Police booked Frye on leaving the scene of the crash.

Action News also found out Frye has a long criminal history, including being a sex offender.

Action News also contacted members of the victim’s family, but they are asking for privacy.
