Man arrested for harassing mom, 5-year-old during St. Augustine screening of 'Beauty and the Beast'

Adam Hewitt Jockell, 32, was arrested at the theater for causing a public disturbance while intoxicated. 

A man was arrested at a St. Augustine movie theater after disturbing a screening of "Beauty and the Beast" while intoxicated, the St. Johns County Sheriff's Officer reported.

Adam Hewitt Jockell, 32, had been in a theater at Epic Theaters on March 17 when management said that Jockell was causing a disturbance.

Management told the deputy that Jockell was intoxicated and had been yelling at a woman and her 5-year-old daughter. The woman said she had been watching "Beauty and the Beast" with her daughter when Jockell, who was in the row in front of them, complimented the girl's costume.

Jockell's mood changed after he tripped or stumbled and began yelling and cursing at the woman and daughter, the woman said. The woman said she became frightened and that he tried to leave the theater with her daughter.

However, she said Jockell continued to harass them and tried to come toward them. The woman said she and her daughter tried to run away from Jockell.

The woman said other movie watchers helped her and the young girl get out of the theater safely.

The deputy said he tried to speak with the man who tried to argue with people in the theater hallway. The deputy reported that he could smell alcohol on Jockell's breath. The deputy handcuffed Jockell after the man tried to argue with the deputy.

Jockell was arrested and taken to the St. Johns County Jail.
