Man claiming to be Ruben Ebron in jailhouse letter calls Lonzie Barton's mom a 'beautiful disaster'

Only Action News Jax has the letter a woman says was written by Ruben Ebron from jail.

In the two-page letter written by a man who says he’s Ruben Ebron, he wants to know what the woman he’s writing to thinks of him, asking her questions like, “do you believe what’s been said about me?”

This letter details more about Ebron’s feelings of anger and love for Lonna Lauramore Barton, even describing her as a "beautiful disaster."

As each hour passed during the search for Barton's toddler son, Lonzie, detectives pressed Ebron harder for answers in the case. Ebron told detectives he didn’t know. Then, six months later police swarmed an area in Bayard.

Sources said Ebron took detectives to where he left Lonzie’s body, in exchange for a plea.

Only Action News Jax obtained a letter from an Arkansas woman. She said she traded the jailhouse letter with him in which he talked about the decision to make a plea deal.

Ebron writes, “It was definitely one of the hardest decisions of my life, but probably the best possible outcome dealing with the case.”

He also writes about mixed feelings for Lauramore Barton, “Even to this day, after she took a deal to testify against me, after her many lies and continuing to lie, after her bonding out, getting back with her husband, and shooting up drugs, I still find myself defending her.”

Action News Jax law and safety expert Dale Carson said the letter is no surprise. He pointed to a line that could be used in future cases against Lauramore Barton. “Lonna is a good woman and just a young and learning mother. People make mistakes and everyone has a past,” Ebron wrote.

“It’s painting a picture of him being the good guy and he was in love with a woman, and he didn’t want to accuse her of any criminal act because he was still in love with her,” Carson said.

The letter also talks about Ebron wanting to move forward with his life.

Ebron’s attorney and father both declined to comment on this letter. The state attorney’s office also got a copy of the letter.
