The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a man who was shot in front of a Jacksonville home later died.
The man was standing in front of a home in the 2000 block of Wright Avenue on Wednesday afternoon when one to two shooters fired at him, JSO Sgt. Jay Farhat said.
Several people witnessed what happened, Farhat said.
Police found the man with a gunshot wound to the torso and performed CPR on him. The man was then taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he was in critical condition and died during operation. On Thursday, police identified the man as 30-year-old Dontae L. Alston.
JSO commended the quick work of two officers who first helped the man, one of whom, Officer Matthews, was out on his first day.
Farhat said it's too early to tell if the shooting is connected to Sunday night's shooting near the Cleveland Arms apartments that killed a mother, her 11-month-old baby and a pregnant teen.
Police said information about a gunman is not available at this time.
